After almost two years of a worldwide pandemic, 2022 was a year of renewed energy for the South Florida tech ecosystem. As one of the first organizations in South Florida who began building our tech hub back in 1995, it has been refreshing seeing the community begin to come together for one purpose over the last couple years. New to South Florida tech? Check out last year’s 2021 recap.
As people began to get back out and about, the Tech Hub mission statement of “Building South Florida’s Tech Hub” was seen and felt stronger than ever. As Tech Hub Chair Michael Fowler said just prior to starting out the 2022 year, “There’s one unified voice in South Florida that’s ready to be a unified region.” From Miami, Broward, Palm Beach and now Martin County, 2022 was a year of great highs and lows in the tech industry, but showed our tenacity as a community.
Real change takes a lot of committed people and organizations – these are just a few of those people and their stories Tech Hub highlighted throughout the year.
JANUARY
We started off the year with our annual Tech Hub TEE OFF 2022, at the hi-tech Top Golf Miami Gardens, sponsored by Crown Castle Fiber.
This SOLD OUT event had 150 people in attendance from all across the region enjoying great food and drinks, a fun game of golf and helping raise $1000 for our kids coding program, Code Palm Beach.
Thank you to all our sponsors and community partner, The Lab Miami, for coming out and learning more about Tech Hub, how your membership dollars are being used, what you can do to get involved, and, of course, meet some of the best people around!

APRIL
What a month!! MiamiTech Month soon became known as #SoFloTechMonth. Although the “Miami Metro Region” includes both Broward and Palm Beach, many people across the country are still unaware. The more we educate we will begin to successfully use the power of each county to support the growth of the entire South Florida tech ecosystem.
Tech Hub created a campaign and webpage to highlight ALL the tech, innovation, and startup activity across the region. SoFloTechMonth.org featured community meetups, pitch events, networking events, and tech conferences from Tech Hub’s #MiamiTech Happy Hour Tech Hub & FAU Tech Runway Pitch Clinic to the eMerge Americas to SoFlo DevCon 2022 and our Think Tank Thursday at The Lab Miami and so many more!
Tech Hub acquired Code Camp in 2022 and rebranded it to SoFlo DevCon. Held at NSU Davie and sponsored by Schonfeld Strategic Advisors, the event had almost 800 in attendance and entrance was FREE to all attendees. This year’s 17th annual SoFlo DevCon attracted developers, engineers, designers, project managers and over 100 speakers. Tracks included everything from AI to blockchain to cloud and even entrepreneurship – learn, connect and grow!

AUGUST
With so many local stories and events this month, Tech Hub stepped up our coverage. It’s crazy to think the below is only a snapshot of all the activity and news stories from the month!
We started out the month with a sold out Founder & Tech Leaders Happy Hour, sponsored by c3 Complete, PeakActivity, and Think Systems, that brought our about 50 tech leaders from across South Florida. The event was held at the brand new beautiful Easton Rooftop Pool & Lounge in Ft. Lauderdale. We then held the
Our Pitch & Pour held in the beautiful Merrick Manor in Coral Gables was another sold out event and certainly the highlight of the month for many. The event brought together startup founders in a non-stressful environment to pitch their ideas to local investors – no stage, no microphones, no prize pot, no winner. Just founders ready to pitch and funders ready to listen.
The Crypto Connect & NFT Expo was held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center making it one of the largest South Florida crypto events and the first of its kind in Palm Beach County.
Our Tech Talent Fest held at Signature Grand in Davie was sponsored by Semantix North America and brought hiring companies and partners together from across South Florida. Featured hiring companies such as ModMed and Signature Consultants spoke to the job seekers about their companies and the importance of networking and building relationships.
We closed out the busy month at Palm Beach State College’s Lake Worth Campus celebrating the awarded over $1 million by the state of Florida as part of a $15.6 million initiative to prepare students and mid-career professionals for jobs in the burgeoning fields of cybersecurity and information technology. Tech Hub CEO Nikki Cabus was invited to speak among the distinguished speakers Tech Hub’s support of the grant and overall tech community.
