Job Summary
The IT Generalist II provides support for faculty, students, and FIU Online Staff to resolve technology related problems. They serve as a source of information on trends, research, applications, products, and effective practices related to technology use for departmental implementation.
- Provides quality support for faculty, students, and FIU Online Staff to resolve technology related problems and ensures customer satisfaction.
- Utilizes remote assistance software for troubleshooting issues for employees as needed.
- Works closely with the Division of IT to resolve issues that may influence technology infrastructure.
- Serves as a liaison for all technical related items between departments and FIU Online staff.
- Collaborates with the FIU Online HR Liaison for employee onboarding and terminating processes to ensure all technology-related access and hardware are properly given to active employees or removed from inactive employees.
- Manages moderate to complex troubleshooting for Windows/MAC operation systems, including Division of IT supported software.
- Evaluates equipment, components, and software for use in moderately complex Information Technology systems and solutions. Interfaces with vendors as necessary.
- Maintains information technology asset inventory.
- Configures and maintains network devices, server hardware, operating systems, and associated services.
- Participates in developing plans, schedules, and requirements for the deployment and lifecycle of systems.
- Designs, develops, tests, debugs, installs, implements, modifies, and supports new or existing applications software in accordance with FIU Online standard practices.
- Maintains familiarity with installed software standards and procedures and provides technical guidance to FIU Online staff.
- Serves as source of information on trends, research, applications, products, and effective practices related to technology use for departmental implementation.
- Facilitates user access to local, unit, and University Information Technology resources.
- Ensures technical requirements are properly integrated with existing processes.
- Writes functional and technical specifications.
- Creates graphical and/or interactive training resources and related documentation as dictated by project design.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technology field and two (2) years of experience in the field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience installing and troubleshooting PC hardware/software.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting MS Windows operating system, MAC OS, and knowledge of MS Office Professional.
- Experience working in a team setting.
- Experience utilizing new software.
