POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide support for VistA/vxVistA and its related modules by way of software configuration
To provide training for Clinical Application Coordinators for those sites who desire to have their own CACs

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties:

Maintains open and effective communication with customers and DSS staff to identify needs, concerns and recommendations regarding CPRS/vxCPRS computer software/hardware.
Acts as a consultant in the application of information technology to clinical practice.
Analyzes user areas to determine procedural problems and CPRS/vxCPRS deficiencies; seeks resolutions, follows through with implementation and evaluates in terms of improved patient care.
Incorporates significant data from a variety of sources in identifying problems/issues in CPRS/vxCPRS.
Assesses knowledge and computer skill level of customers related to CPRS/vxCPRS.
Uses knowledge of Vista File structures to gather appropriate documentation.
Plans timing and sequence of own work and responds to requests for information in a timely manner.
Assists with maintaining computer security and HIPAA regulations.
Assigns appropriate menus, electronic keys and ASU roles to users.
Provides training to end users or other staff as indicated and/or as requested.
Develops forms, boilerplates, templates, menus, order sets, quick orders, and clinical reminders appropriate to the users’ and the institution’s needs.
Designs learning materials for use in clinical settings.
Facilitates use of CPRS/vxCPRS in the clinical setting.
Coordinates with other DSS staff and the customers within the healthcare setting to facilitate smooth updates/modifications of software, hardware, and other physical aspects of patient care.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of technological and software development in health care automation.
Demonstrates ability to identify, analyze and resolve CPRS/vxCPRS problems resulting in significant enhancements to patient care and administrative functioning.
Serves as a resource to clinical and IT staff to promote use of the electronic medical record.
Acts as liaison between clinical and non-clinical staff concerning VistA/vxVistA/CPRS/vxCPRS.
Assists the Support staff in resolving reported problems with VistA/vxVistA/CPRS/vxCPRS software.
Other Duties:

Stays informed of developments within the field of Electronic Medical Records.
Accepts responsibility for coordination of CPRS/vxCPRS duties for assigned areas.
Collaborates with colleagues in establishing policies/procedures for clinical practice, which have been impacted by computer usage.
Employs sound judgment in problem resolution and decision making in issues related to clinical practice, education and management of CPRS/vxCPRS.
Guides, supports and teaches staff to use VistA/vxVistA/CPRS/vxCPRS and other DSS software modules.
Supports and participates in the training and/or development of staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills:

Required:
Maintains comprehensive knowledge of VistA/vxVistA/CPRS/vxCPRS technology and demonstrates the ability to differentiate procedural problems from CPRS/vxCPRS deficiencies.
Able to provide consultation to the healthcare setting personnel in areas of computers, and CPRS/vxCPRS software applications.
Able to serve as mentor/preceptor to guide, orient, counsel and demonstrate expertise in VistA/CPRS/vxCPRS to enhance computer skills.
Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
Desired:
Ability to interact in a professional and courteous fashion with fellow staff and customers.
Education:

Required:
Degree in computer science or two years’ experience as a Clinical Application Coordinator or similar position
Desired:
Experience with working with a VistA system
Certification(s), Licenses:

Required:n/a
Desired:RN, LPN, Lab Tech, etc.
Scrum Master Certification [CSM]
Project Management Professional [PMP] (Must be willing and able to attain certifications if not currently achieved)

This role can be Remote which would allow most work to be performed at home; however, the Employer is a Federal Contractor and subject to federal vaccination mandate. Employees must be fully vaccinated to come onto any of DSS, Inc’s sites or Client sites.
