Rony Abovitz, the visionary entrepreneur behind the augmented reality company Magic Leap and robotic surgery pioneer MAKO Surgical, has launched a new venture, SynthBee, which is poised to change the landscape of artificial intelligence. The company just announced they secured $20 million in funding to help amplify and accelerate human innovation.
SynthBee, headquartered in Broward County, is focused on building a safe, scalable, and reliable computing intelligence platform designed to amplify human creativity and accelerate innovation across various industries. SynthBee stands out from other AI platforms by promoting a philosophy of computational democracy, aiming to empower a wide range of industries and individual creators through safe and ethical AI practices. The company is already engaging Fortune 500 customers and actively recruiting top tech talent.
SynthBee was founded by Rony Abovitz, an entrepreneur with an exceptional track record of building transformative technology companies: MAKO Surgical (acquired by Stryker Corp. for $1.65b), and Magic Leap (the world leader in spatial computing innovation). MAKO’s intelligent computing systems successfully evolved the complex surgical environment and positively impacted the lives of millions of patients.
The $20 million in seed funding raised from Crosspoint Capital Partners, LP, a leading investment firm focused on cybersecurity, privacy, and infrastructure software. This funding will help expand the team and accelerate the development of SynthBee’s proprietary computing intelligence platform, which aims to solve the architectural and security challenges currently faced by large-scale AI systems.
“Crosspoint is excited to partner with SynthBee and back a multi-successful entrepreneur,” said Andre Fuetsch, Managing Director, Crosspoint Capital. “SynthBee is poised to revolutionize the way enterprises innovate and deliver high-value solutions to market. Rony Abovitz has a proven track record and tremendous talent in designing and building highly impactful capabilities to significantly improve human potential and outcomes.”
He continued, “From robotic surgical applications to state of the art spatial computing and augmented reality platforms, Rony’s latest vision for SynthBee will accelerate and enhance humans’ creative and problem-solving capabilities to an entirely new level.”
Fuetsch and Crosspoint’s confidence in Abovitz stems from his prior successes and his ability to envision and build technologies that push human capabilities to new heights. With SynthBee, the goal is not only to scale AI safely but also to do so in a way that aligns with ethical and responsible technological development.
“The SynthBee team is excited to partner with Andre and Crosspoint Capital to build out our novel computing intelligence platform,” said Rony Abovitz, SynthBee’s President & CEO. “Current implementations of large-scale artificial intelligence systems have significant architectural challenges, security risks, and ethical flaws, leading to questionable governance and computational autocracies.”
“SynthBee was founded to solve these problems and to forge alternate pathways for enterprise customers, the developer community, and eventually everyone, based on the philosophy of computational democracy. We are already commercially engaged with Fortune 500 customers with our solutions. We are also actively recruiting top tech talent to join our team.”
Earlier this year, Miami Dade College announced their partnership with Synthbee. Through the MDC-SynthBee collaboration, students gain unparalleled access to SynthBee’s cutting-edge technology platform, unlocking opportunities for internships, fellowships, and careers at SynthBee, Inc. This initiative not only empowers students but also enriches the local talent pool, fueling economic and social growth in the region.
“We are excited to partner with SynthBee, Inc. and expand opportunities for our students and the community. This partnership exemplifies our commitment to equipping students with the skills and resources necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving world,” said MDC President Madeline Pumariega.
“Innovation and creativity are unbounded, and through this partnership, we aim to amplify the talent and impact of the brightest minds in this region,” said Rony Abovitz, Founder & CEO of SynthBee, Inc. “By investing in student talent and fostering a culture of build it yourself entrepreneurship, we are shaping the future of South Florida as a global hub of innovation.”
