CodeArt’s mission is to increase the number of girls studying computer science by delighting and inspiring them with the creative possibilities of computer programming. We strive to put young women – particularly young women from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups – on track for future tech careers by providing welcoming early coding programs that focus on art, creativity and social good. Since 2016, Code/Art has reached over 6,300 girls and trained over 170 teachers to bring creative coding into their classrooms!
Code/Art provides three distinct programs in our community:
CodeHER Clubs and Workshops, meeting virtually and in-person, where girls learn web and mobile app development, 3D modeling, game design, and the tools of digital art and design. Club and workshop instructors are often CodeHER alumni who also serve as near-peer mentors to younger girls.
CSTA-Certified Professional Development Workshops that empower art teachers in Miami-Dade County Public Schools to teach Code/Art digital art lessons to their students, providing one way around the computer science bottleneck in schools, by engaging a whole new set of teachers, classrooms, and students in computer science education.
Code/Art Fest Annual Coding Competition & Conference, that brings together a community of hundreds of girl coders in grades 3-12 and their teachers, friends, and family members to learn from keynote speakers in the fields of art and technology; to showcase a dazzling variety of students’ digital artwork; and to celebrate the winners and finalists in the annual coding competitions.
