Civic Hacking: "Uniting South Florida Cities"

Civic hacking is a term that describes a collaborative approach to problem-solving that uses technology to positively impact society. Civic hackers use a variety of skills and resources, including code, open data sets, and the talents of their local community, to create innovative solutions to challenges in their neighborhoods, cities, states, and country. The goal is to encourage participation in civic life, especially in urban areas, and to influence society in a positive way.

Highlights From Last Year

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a competition where participants form teams, work intensively on a project, create a solution, and then pitch their ideas to judges. Our theme this year is ‘Civic Hacking: Uniting South Florida Cities‘ with each project addressing issues faced by our local cities/counties/municipalities including cyber hacking and ransomware, transportation and smart cities initiatives. Teams will collaborate to build a solution to support our local South Florida communities.

Why should I attend?

Connect with other tech professionals, learn new skills that help grow your confidence, build a solution to support your local community, and have fun enjoying a weekend of tech and innovation. Developers, engineers, designers, and project managers, are the perfect fit for this event with successful teams having a mix of these areas of expertise. This event is always a memorable one where you can be creative, get dirty, make mistakes, build something cool and meet new friends!

What do I need?

A laptop, headphones, phone and laptop chargers, a great attitude and creative mind, a strong cup of coffee (or tea, whatever you prefer), and a diverse team of individuals. Teams can be made up of a minimum of 2 and maximum of 6 people. You do not have to know who will be on your team before signing up. Our coaches and staff will help you find a team if you don’t have one. Oh, and we recommend a comfy sleeping bag, pillow and blanket.
