Industry
City Furniture is a Florida based retailer on a mission to change the way people live with beautiful home furnishings at incredible value. Our roots date back to the 1970s when we opened as Waterbed City, and over the years we’ve evolved into a leading furniture and home accents destination. Style and value is at the core of everything we do, and with nearly 20 showrooms across the state and an expansive e-commerce site, we’re constantly evolving our lineup to bring our customers the very best.
City Furniture’s advanced point-of-sale technology – the first of its kind in the U.S. furniture industry – is a retail game-changer. Customers can learn availability and complete purchase of any item while relaxing with a glass of wine on a sofa, testing a mattress, or from anywhere in the store. “A technology company that sells furniture”
Today, City Furniture is recognized for pioneering the customized iPad sales system, by working closely with Apple and IBM. In real time, it enables sales associates to check all items in stock and at all City Furniture stores and distribution centers – and to take payment and complete scheduling the delivery almost instantaneously, making the experience faster, easier and more pleasant for customers. Their goal is to make you feel good about where you live – and that means both the place you call home, and the world we all share. They’re committed to giving back a minimum of 5% of annual profits through the many charities we support.
Recently named CEO, Andrew Koenig, who studied kaizen management methods in Japan, has led City Furniture’s high-growth, continuous improvement process, boosting the firm’s productivity throughout the past decade. As president, he oversees all departments and associates, as well as the roll-out of the Lean Management system he developed. His visionary “greening” of the firm’s approximately 100-truck delivery fleet to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) has cut emissions by 47 percent, produces strong, ongoing ROI and has won national awards.
As Southeast and Southwest Florida’s top-selling furniture retailer, City Furniture is underway with a $100 million expansion, including the opening of its first of three showrooms in the Orlando market in November 2018. The Tamarac, Fla.-based company employs 1,850 associates statewide, and expects to create approximately 400 new jobs in South and Central Florida.
