Systems Engineer:

Responsible for providing operational leadership and thought leadership to a broad range of IT disciplines including system performance and resiliency, network performance, security administration, and operations in physical/virtual and Cloud Windows and Linux environments.
The Systems Engineer is a hands-on position with the expertise to perform and lead the process methodology of installing, configuring, and monitoring systems and software.
Performs, and helps others to perform, problem determination for servers and software.
Helps to create and maintain documentation for all department activities.
Adheres to all Service Request, Incident, and Change Management policies and procedures and SLA’s.
Works with leadership to identify project requirements, assists and leads project teams, addresses complex technical issues, and offers solutions supporting the enterprise.
Participates in IT Cloud Operations On-Call rotation to support customer environments hosted in Cloud..
ensures that hardware, Windows and Linux operating systems, application software, and related procedures adhere to organizational compliancy and operational requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties:

Installs new, or rebuilds existing, servers and configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Troubleshooting as required, leading problem-solving efforts with outside vendors, other technical personnel and/or organizations
Project management functions including managing the installation of new systems, applications and other special projects for the IT Department.
Daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Security monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing. Ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
Leads on Cloud Operational projects, tasks and works closely to transition environments, projects from internal IT teams (Infrastructure, Applications and Cybersecurity) into Cloud Operations.
Researches and recommends innovative, and possible automated approaches for system administration tasks and tests new and emerging technologies focused on enhancing Cloud operations.
Applies OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
Has expert knowledge of LINUX (RedHat) administration, an in-depth knowledge of RedHat and SAN architecture.
Is familiar with a multitude of OSS tools and utilities for managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting Windows, Linux infrastructure and networks.
Is proficient in tasks such as shell scripting (LINUX and UNIX), Windows PowerShell, creating cron jobs, analyzing log files, managing user accounts and groups, and configuring iptables and disaster recovery.
Engineers’ systems administration-related solutions for various projects and operational needs.
Installs new/rebuilds existing servers and configures operating systems, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Installs and configures systems which support infrastructure.
Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures.
Contributes to and maintain system standards.
Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
Identities approaches that leverage resources.
Under the guidance of IT Management, the Systems Engineer, assists and supports on all IT and Cloud Operational tickets, tasks and Projects

 

Other Duties:

Works with other departments’ teams, as requested, in recommending the required hardware and software topology for the right deployment architecture.
Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves client questions about products, services and general requests for issues pertaining to our supported products running on Linux Systems.
Contributes to the development and completion of technical RFP’s.
Performs on-call responsibilities and after-hours duties as necessary and/or directed by DSS Management.
Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as temperature monitoring, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire protection systems.
Operates and provides support for enterprise communication systems in-house and on cloud.
Establishes, maintains and manages service accounts. Installs, modifies, and maintains systems and utility software on server computer systems. Provides server support related to other software.
Operates and provides support for enterprise package distribution and corporate directory services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Skills Required

12+ years of experience administering Windows and Linux/ Server operating systems.
3+ years of experience planning and administering Azure/AWS large-scale virtualized environments.
Possesses a comprehensive working knowledge of Linux operating system, especially process and system monitoring facilities.
Strong WAN and LAN configuration and troubleshooting skills.
Exhibits mature organization and time management skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent technical documentation and communication skills with the ability to articulate clearly and concisely, technical information to non-technical staff, both orally and in writing.
Travels a minimum of 25% as Product/Department need dictates.

 

Desired:

Fluency in at least one scripting language, shell scripting, and experience with object-oriented programming languages.
Experience developing automation tools and frameworks for performance measurement and analysis.
Project management expertise
Experience in running presentations to internal audiences

Education:

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study
Combination of experience and/or education can be substituted for degree
